At Bamboo Tenby, we’re not here to serve fine dining. We’re not dressing up food with fancy decor or hiding behind trendy ambience. We’re here for one thing flavour. Bold, honest, unforgettable flavour. We bring the fire of Asian BBQ to the Welsh coast, blending time honoured recipes with a modern twist and zero compromise on taste.

Set at the iconic Dennis Café by Castle Beach, Bamboo offers stunning sea views, a laid-back, family-friendly setting, and an inclusive menu that proudly caters to vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free diners. But above all, it’s about the food. We cook with authenticity, we serve with purpose, and we make damn sure no one ever leaves hungry or thinking about the nearest chip shop.

Our Story

Bamboo is the creation of Matt and Jared, the team behind every bold flavour on your plate. We met while working for a major cruise line, where our shared passion for food and adventure began to grow.

Jared’s culinary journey began long before his time at sea. He trained in Italy and France, and honed his skills in authentic Asian kitchens throughout the Philippines. His expertise spans far beyond Asian cuisine, with a career that’s seen him recognised for excellence at every turn. Onboard, he became a specialty chef, feeding over 6,000 guests daily.

Matt, born and raised in Tenby, also spent a decade at sea, working his way up to the highest engineering rank. Together, we travelled across Southeast Asia, absorbing its cultures, flavours, and stories never imagining we’d one day bring it all back home in our own kitchen.

And that’s the thing Bamboo wasn’t a long planned venture. It began entirely by chance. One Wednesday evening at Didi Dens, over a few casual refreshments, a general conversation unfolded that sparked an unexpected idea. We’d never seriously considered opening a business of our own but the idea stuck. We decided to try a quiet, low key trial weekend. No big social media push, no campaigns just a chance to cook and share.

By the end of day one, word of mouth had already begun to spread. Locals showed up, shared their experience, and came back for more. That early response gave us the security and the belief that maybe we had something worth building. And just like that, Bamboo was born.

Since then, it’s never felt like a job. We’re not driven by spreadsheets or profit margins. We’re fuelled by passion, flavour, and the joy of cooking for others. Our best day is every day watching people leave with full bellies and big smiles, knowing they chose to spend a little time with us.

We’re not just about barbecue, either. While Asian BBQ is our signature, our menu reaches far beyond it with rice bowls, noodles, sides, snacks, and seasonal dishes inspired by the street food we’ve loved and lived. We keep our menu fresh and flexible, with something for everyone, all year round.
